We are a couple of recent retirees from the USA. We retired, sold everything, and set out on a world adventure we never thought would last so long. WWII started in Gdansk. Of course Prague said it started there. It did, but the rest of the world ignored it, so I guess it does not really count. When Hitler invaded Poland, via Gdansk, the world called it a war. Gdansk has a really weird history. After WWI, it was considered a free City. Not part of any country, although surrounded by Poland. But it was mostly German and also went by the name Danzig.
