Jimena de la Frontera is Brilliant

We have been having a brilliant time here in Jimena de la Frontera, one of the little Pueblos Blancos (white villages) in Andalucía Spain.

Morocco for Beginners

Morocco takes edginess up a notch. I was very ambivalent about going to Morocco. Some people love it and return often. Others did not like the vibe, people, or filth.

Oxford for a stint

We have arrived in England for a unique house sit. We will be staying in a thatched roof house in the Oxford countryside. This will be a unique opportunity to enjoy the English countryside as a local with dogs to walk. We envision ourselves taking the dogs to the pub after tramping though sheep.

Still Humming Along in Andalucía

We are pet sitting and house sitting in Andalucía at a villa with an iconic view of one of the famous Pueblos Blancos. There has been time to take in Gibraltar and Marbella.

Hola from Andalucía

Still enjoying our lurchers and our villa sit in one of the Pueblos Blancos in Andalucía Spain. This area of the world is brilliant in Springtime. The mountains are very picturesque, some covered in cork oak forest that is harvested by hand and mule to make wine corks. Interesting wild flowers are blooming and the hiking is divine.

House Sitting in Andalusia, Spain

Boy did we luck out this time! The house sit turned out to be a villa-sit. One of the Pueblos Blancos de Andalucía (White Villages of Spain) is on the next hill. It is capped with a medieval castle that is lit at night.

Traveling Ramblers Hit Madrid

Madrid is a cool city. It is funny how we get a vibe for a city immediately (while we are still pushing/pulling our bags) Pretty architecture. A blend between French and Italian, with Moorish influences. It has a party vibe with lots of young people. They eat dinner here at about 11pm. It is shorts weather. The International Women’s day is big. We were told not to expect to get anywhere Friday night while they were marching. There were demonstrations in the square near our hotel all day.

More from Rural France

Boy has this month flown by. We have been in Brittany house sitting and we only have a week to go. The temperature has changed from Winter to Spring (hopefully a one-way decision). We have been super lucky in that our first real Winter has been such a mild one. It is amazing how fast the finches have changed colors. We have grown attached to the 3 dogs and 2 cats. And we have not been bored with the goats and chickens and ducks; they are so entertaining.

Not Noah’s Arc, But a Start

Sometimes the best part of traveling happens where you do not expect. For us, our most fond memories have happened house sitting. Here is our chance to live like locals, meet locals and feel like we belong.

Paris is still the City of Light

Paris has had some bad press in the past few years. People told us it is not the beautiful, pristine, Disney-like, haughty, fashion-forward, gastronic center-of-the-universe that it once was. Not true.
